I am so proud of how far my small idea has come. So far,
-The reason behind Beautiful Beginnings-
I want to bring joy to families that welcome babies with
Down syndrome into the world. I hope to create baskets filled with positive
information, baby products, and resources to give to these families when they
might feel like they don’t know where to turn. I know from experience that
those first few days in the hospital are the hardest. I felt alone, scared, and
worried for my future. I remember, after finding out about my son Anthony’s
Down syndrome diagnosis, I went straight to the internet and googled Down
syndrome. I was overwhelmed with all of the information, mostly about negative
health concerns. I didn’t know where to start. I knew that there were a lot of
organizations out there willing to help, and provide me with information but, I
was not ready to become a member of anything that had to do with Down syndrome.
It was too soon, still too raw. Those first few days my world came crashing
down, and I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. I thought that my
life I had planned for was over.
I wish I could go back and tell myself just how wonderful my
life is now. I wish I would have known that although this isn’t the life I
planned, it’s better than anything I could have ever imagined. I wish I knew
just how much joy and happiness Anthony would bring to everyone around him. I
wish I could have celebrated his birthday, instead of grieving. This is why I
am so passionate about making sure these new families know just how amazing
their lives are going to be. I don’t want them to look back on their child’s
birthday with sorrow. I want these families to know that they’re not alone in
this journey. There are people out there who care about their new baby just as
much as they do! I know that if this project is successful, we can bring back
joy and happiness to the delivery room. All children deserve to be
celebrated on their birthday!
-Beautiful Beginnings now-
Delaware County Down Syndrome Interest Group (DCDSIG) has decided to partner together with Beautiful Beginnings to help welcome these precious new lives into the world.
Currently, I have a team of 3 amazing women (Christa, Patty and Leah) who help run Beautiful Beginnings and who have made it what it is today!
